There are numerous ways you can utilize these RECIPES to create drum grooves! You can use a Push or any Grid MIDI Controller in Step Sequencer Mode to compose the grooves.
Alternatively, you can go directly to your DAW grid and write them there.
Before we begin, let’s address some “basic” questions!
What defines a drum groove?
Drum Groove is a repetitive rhythmic phrase.
What’s step sequencer?
There are two main approaches to create a drum groove: real-time finger drumming or step-sequencing. With a step sequencer, you can assign drum hits to beats in a bar over a specified, looped period of time (8 beats, 16 beats, 32 beats, etc.)
Let’s kick things off!

Choose your DRUM RACK
STEP 2
Start by choosing a tempo. The grooves have tempo suggestions!
STEP 3
Copy the recipes!
Using Push Step Sequencer
Copy the “recipe” into your Step Sequencer “space” on your Grid Controller.
Using your DAW
Using MIDI Editor you can copy these Recipes directly into your Drum Midi Clips.
Set your Grid Size to 1/16 and make the length of the MIDI Clip 1 bar. Then draw in the notes per element, like the image below.
